Gent missed a chance to go level on points with Anderlecht after losing 1-0 to Germinal Beerschot in the Belgian First Division.

After Anderlecht slipped up 2-1 at Mechelen on Friday, Trond Sollied’s Gent could have joined the leaders on 36 points with a home victory against mid-table Beerschot on Saturday.

But it was not to be for Gent, who slumped to their third home defeat of the season.

Senegalese targetman Ibrahim Sidibe scored the only goal of the game, bagging a 55th-minute winner for the visitors.

Standard Liege, who sit fourth, needed a Cyriac Gohi Bi equaliser with 11 minutes to play to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw at Lokeren, who took the lead through Mijat Maric’s penalty.

Strikes from Rudy and Oleg Iachtchouk handed Cercle Brugge a 2-0 win at Mons while Elianiv Barda bagged a double in Genk’s 4-0 rout of Lierse.

Kortrijk defeated Westerlo 1-0, with Serbian Dalibor Veselinovic scoring a second-half winner.

OH Leuven claimed a point in an exciting 2-2 draw against Zulte-Waregem, with Jordan Remacle netting with four minutes to go from the penalty spot for the hosts.
