Kortrijk have failed to make up ground on Belgian First Division leaders Anderlecht after they went down 2-0 away to Lierse on Saturday.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s men had the chance to move within three points of the league-leaders, but instead were sunk by second half goals from Frans Frans and Daylon Claasen at the Herman Vanderpoortenstadion.

It was a valuable win for Lierse, who move three points clear of the relegation zone, while Kortrijk remain sixth but could sink lower depending on Sunday’s results.

Strugglers Westerlo claimed a rare win, beating Beerschot 3-1 at home to move within two points of safety.

Najib Annab and Juande both netted in the first half for the hosts, and although Guillame Francois pulled one back from Beerschot after the break, Dieter Dekelver sealed the points with a third for Westerlo just past the hour mark.

Mons were forced to come from behind twice before eventually beating 10-man Zulte-Waregem 3-2, Mael Lepicier scoring the winner with 10 minutes remaining.

And Sint-Truiden remain rooted to the bottom of the table after they played out a scoreless draw at home against Mechelen.
