Brisbane Roar striker Besart Berisha has been suspended for one match for his actions after the Roar’s stunning 2-1 win over Sydney last week.
Berisha scored the winning goal deep into injury time and after the final whistle sounded he ripped off his shirt and gestured to Sydney defender Pascal Bosschaart to follow him into the tunnel.
The incident sparked dramatic scenes as players and officials all got involved, though no punches were thrown.
Football Federation Australia handed the Roar striker a one-match ban and a one-match suspended ban, which will be activated if he offends again.
But the Albanian could be free to play this weekend against the third-placed Melbourne Heart if Roar decide to appeal the decision, with the hearing to take place next week.
If upheld he will miss the club’s following match against Newcastle.
Berisha was found to have breached the National Code of Conduct for his actions, specifically: “Offensive behaviour, including offensive, obscene, provocative or insulting gestures, language or chanting.”
“Provocation or incitement of hatred or violence.”
“A professional player must at all times behave in a manner that promotes and upholds the highest standards of integrity, dignity and professionalism.”
Brisbane have seven days to lodge an appeal.
