Competition: Leagues Cup
Market: Goal to be scored in both halves
Odds: 4/6 @ Pribet
Two camps who are desperately seeking an essential Leagues Cup boost in the early hours of Thursday, Atlanta will welcome Atlas to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, suffering a major second-half collapse away at U.N.A.M last weekend as they eventually slumped to an action-packed 3-2 defeat, Atlanta find themselves in the midst of what has become a worrying rut. Getting their Leagues Cup adventure underway with another downbeat performance as they got hit with a 3-1 drumming against Necaxa, Ronny Deila certainly has some serious pressure on his shoulders. Last seen in MLS action playing out a frantic 2-2 stalemate at home against Seattle, the former Celtic boss has not seen his squad muster a single win from any of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions. With that rut stemming all the way back to a 3-2 victory against Orlando on May 29th, Atlanta have also gained an unwanted reputation for their glaring defensive issues. Shipping six goals in their opening two Leagues Cup defeats, Thursday’s hosts have also mustered just a sole clean sheet across any formats since the start of March.
As for the visitors, falling to their own respective 3-1 defeat away at Orlando last weekend, Atlas find themselves in an almost identical position to Thursday’s opponents. Getting their Leagues Cup campaign underway with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Inter Miami on July 31st, Los Rojinegros have now lost their previous three appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score of 8-3. Showing a string of issues on either side of the summer break, the Guadalajara-based outfit have once again drastically failed to find any kind of fluidity. Despite opening their new domestic campaign with a dramatic 3-2 victory against Puebla, Gonzalo Pineda’s side have registered just a pair of wins from any of their last 11 matchups across all fronts. Playing out a pulsating 3-3 stalemate against Cruz Azul on July 20th, Thursday’s guests have also failed to muster a single clean sheet since the start of February.
