Competition: EFL Cup
Market: Birmingham City win
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Turning their attention back to EFL Cup action on Tuesday night, Birmingham will welcome League One outfit Port Vale to St. Andrew’s.
Starting with the hosts, while Birmingham might have only made their Championship return this season, Chris Davies’ men have enjoyed a sensational start to proceedings. With the new St. Andrew’s hierarchy making it clear that they have their sights firmly set on mounting another promotion charge, the Blues find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure on August 13th as they collected an impressive 2-1 victory against Championship rivals Sheffield United, the Midlands-based outfit are riding a major wave of momentum. Last seen over the weekend putting in another gritty performance as they clinched a 1-0 win at home against Oxford United, Birmingham have registered seven points from their first three Championship showdowns. In fact, including a 2-1 victory away at Blackburn on August 16th, Tuesday’s hosts have won their previous three consecutive matchups across all formats by an aggregate score of 5-2. It should also be noted, the Blues have suffered just a single defeat at St. Andrew’s so far this calendar year.
As for the visitors, although Port Vale might have sprung an upset last season as they booked a League One return, Darren Moore’s men have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their third-tier status this time around. Putting in another downbeat performance over the weekend as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home against Doncaster, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss has seen his squad put just two points on the board from any of their first five League One appearances. Getting the 2025/26 campaign underway with a 2-1 loss against Rotherham on August 2nd, Port Vale look set for what is a heavyweight challenge on Tuesday night. Showing some extended issues in the final third, the Valliants should also be concerned by a nightmare record against Birmingham. Hit with a routine 2-0 loss when they last welcomed the Blues to town for a summer friendly on July 26th, they have lost five of their previous six meetings against the Championship promotion dreamers.
