Competition: Chinese Super League
Market: Shanghai Port win
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Looking to find a route back into the AFC Champions League spots on Friday morning, Shanghai will travel to the Nanling Stadium when they meet Changchun.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways prior to China’s mini summer break, Changchun will certainly be bracing themselves for another stern examination here. Last seen signing off June with a 2-1 loss at home against Shanghai Shenhua, Ricardo Soares’ men are pencilled in as a leading relegation contender in 2025. Getting Friday’s showdown underway sat rock-bottom of the Super League standings, the Reds have also put just eight points on the board from any of their 16 top-flight appearances so far this season. Watching their FA Cup adventure come to an end on May 21st at the hands of second-tier outfit Dalian K’un City, Changchun have lost eight of their previous nine appearances across all competitions. Likewise, with that rut stemming back to a 0-0 stalemate against Yunnan Yukun on April 20th, it should also be highlighted that Friday’s hosts have also claimed just a sole win since the start of April.
As for the visitors, while Shanghai might have suffered their own respective FA Cup heartbreak last month, the Chinese giants have come roaring back in some style. Last seen heading into the fortnight interval with a 2-1 victory away at Shenzhen Xinpengcheng, Kevin Musact’s men now have their sights firmly set on finding a route back into the AFC Champions League spots. Storming their way to a routine 3-0 victory against Dalian Ningbo on June 26th, the Red Eagles have won each of their previous three straight Super League showdowns by an aggregate score of 8-2. Likewise, the reigning champions have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to May 1st. Smelling a golden opportunity here and winning all of their last seven straight meetings against Changchun by an aggregate score of 23-6, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.
