Two sides who are desperately searching for their own Championship boosts this weekend, Charlton will welcome Oxford to south London on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, enjoying what was a sensational run of form on either side of opening November, Charlton had shockingly found a route into the top-half of the Championship standings. However, crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion, Nathan Jones’ men have come free-falling down the table and have rightfully come under plenty of recent scrutiny. Despite being last seen snatching a 1-1 draw against Birmingham, that is the only point that the Addicks have registered from any of their previous six Championship appearances. With many around south London now firmly starting to look over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Charlton have also continued to shown some glaring issues at the back. Marking their return from November’s international break with an infamous 5-1 drumming at home against Southampton, Jones’ downbeat squad have shipped 15 goals on their six-match winless rut. Likewise, it should also be noted that the Addicks have also conceded seven goals in their back-to-back Championship defeats in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, although Oxford might have sprung a real upset last season as they clung to their Championship status, Gary Rowett’s men have an almighty job on their hands this time around. Opening Saturday’s trip to the capital sat in the drop zone, it is no secret that the U’s are widely regarded as a standout relegation candidate in 2026. Falling to a 2-1 loss at home against Preston last weekend, the former Millwall boss has seen his squad register just a single win from any of their previous nine consecutive Championship appearances – a rut that stems all the way back to October 25th. Heading into November’s fortnight interval with another 2-1 defeat against West Brom, Oxford have also recorded just a sole second-tier clean sheet since the start of October. However, despite being pencilled in as a real underdog contender this weekend, Rowett’s men should be excited by a stunning record record against Saturday’s hosts. Including a 2-1 win when they last travelled to south London back in January 2024, they have won all of their previous three showdowns against Charlton by an aggregate score of 7-3.
