Competition: MLS
Market: Chicago Fire win
Odds: 3/4 @ BetUS
Searching for an immediate response in the early hours of Sunday, Chicago will welcome New England to Soldier Field.
Starting with the hosts, completely blown away when they travelled to Philadelphia last time out as they slumped to a 4-0 drumming, Chicago are desperately seeking an immediate response here. Nevertheless, confident of dusting themselves down when they return to Illinois in the early hours of Sunday, Gregg Berhalter’s side will be confident of skyrocketing into the play-off places this weekend. Losing just one of their previous six MLS appearances, the Reds have also continued to shine with their performances on home soil. Last seen at Soldier Field collecting an action-packed 3-2 victory against St. Louis City on August 17th, Chicago have registered seven points from their last three MLS showdowns in front of their own supporters. Likewise, suffering just a single defeat in Illinois since the end of June, the former Columbus Crew boss finds his squad pencilled in as a standout contender this weekend.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out as they signed off August with a 2-1 defeat at home against Charlotte, New England have drastically struggled to find any kind of stability. Getting Sunday’s trip to Illinois underway sat nine points adrift of breaking into the play-off places, Sunday’s guests have lost five of their previous seven MLS appearances – a run that stems back to a 0-0 stalemate against Austin on July 17th. Mustering just a pair of wins from any of their last 13 MLS outings, Caleb Porter certainly finds some serious pressure on his shoulders. With their recent issues underlined by a 3-1 defeat against Montreal on July 26th, New England have shown some worrying defensive struggles. Hit with another routine 3-1 loss when they last met Chicago back in May, Porter’s side face another stern examination this weekend.
