Turning their attention back to MLS duties in the early hours of Sunday, Inter Miami will travel to Washington when they meet DC United.
Starting with the hosts, sat rock-bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and enduring what has been another public MLS crisis this season, DC United have rightfully come under a huge amount of scrutiny. Despite being last seen snatching a 1-1 stalemate against Montreal, that is the only point that Rene Weiler’s camp have registered from any of their previous six appearances. Likewise, the Eagles have managed to claim just a pair of points from any of their last nine consecutive MLS outings – a rut that stems back to June 1st. Watching their US Open Cup adventure come to a thumping end on July 10th as they fell to an action-packed 5-2 defeat against Nashville, DC United have also gained a reputation for their glaring issues on home soil. Last seen at Audi Field getting hit with a 4-2 loss at the hands of Austin, Weiler’s side have failed to muster a single MLS clean sheet in Washington since the start of May.
As for the visitors, punching their Leagues Cup semi-final spot earlier in the week as they clinched a 2-1 victory at home against Mexican giants Tigres, Inter Miami are enjoying what has become another purple patch. Still looking to defend their Eastern Conference crown this season, Javier Mascherano’s superstar squad will be confident of making another statement here. Last seen in MLS action securing what was a routine 3-1 win against LA Galaxy, the Herons have won five of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Likewise, suffering just a single defeat across any format over the past five weeks, the one-time Liverpool midfielder finds his side pencilled in as a standout contender this weekend. Landing another 3-1 victory when they last travelled to Washington for an MLS showdown back in March 2024, they have registered seven points from their last three meetings against the Eagles. Two camps who are scrapping it out at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference standings, we are backing an away victory here.
