Competition: NPL Queensland
Market: Goal to be scored in both halves
Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS
Looking to extend their buffer at the top of the NPL Queensland table on Wednesday lunchtime, the Lions will travel to Eastern Suburbs.
Starting with the hosts, managing to claim what was a much-welcomed boost last week as they clinched a 2-1 victory away at Brisbane Roar’s U21s, Eastern Suburbs will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. Despite clinching a silver medal NPL Queensland finish last season, the Tigers have largely failed to find much fluidity this time around. Mustering just a single victory from any of their previous six appearances, the Oranges have also gained a reputation for their glaring defensive issues. Hit with a woeful 5-2 drumming at home against local rivals local rivals Brisbane City, they have shipped 16 goals in those six consecutive outings. Likewise, collecting just a pair of clean sheets from any of their first 13 NPL Queensland matchups, they have also conceded at least a pair of goals in all of their last four straight outings at Heath Park.
As for the visitors, while Queensland might have opened up the 2025 campaign with a 3-1 defeat away at Gold Coast, the Lions have come roaring back in a sensational fashion. Last seen putting in another dominant display as they cruised their way to a 3-0 victory against St. George, Darren Sime’s side are in the midst of what has become a real purple patch. Leading the chase at the top of the NPL Queensland standings, Wednesday’s guests have won all of their previous six consecutive appearances – a run that stems back to a 1-1 stalemate against Peninsula on May 24th. Signing off June with a 4-0 romp against Sunshine Coast, Queensland have also gained a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. In fact, the Lions have bagged 16 goals on that five-match winning run. It should also be noted, registering 36 goals in their 15 appearances so far this season, Sime’s men hold the best-attacking tally in the division.
