Competition: Spanish Segunda

Market: Elche win

Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS

Hoping to widen their buffer at the top of the Segunda standings on Sunday evening, Elche will welcome Albacete to the Estadio Martinez Valero.

Starting with the hosts, continuing on what has been a real Segunda romp this season, Elche are sat firmly in the driving seat to book a lucrative La Liga return in 2025. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table, Eder Sarabia’s men are unsurprisingly pencilled in as a standout promotion contender at the back end of the campaign. Rightfully receiving a string of plaudits from across Spain’s second-tier, the one-time Barcelona coach should find the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Putting in another rugged performance last week as they clinched a 1-0 victory away at Cadiz, there is no doubt that Elche will be looking to lay down another title marker here. Getting April underway with another 1-0 win against Ferrol, Sarabia’s squad have now won all of their previous four consecutive Segunda appearances by an aggregate score of 6-1. In fact, Sunday’s hosts have also registered 13 points from just their last five outings. It should also be highlighted, gaining a reputation for their dominance on home soil, Elche have won their previous six Segunda showdowns at the Estadio Martinez Valero.

As for the visitors, while Albacete might have signed off March in the midst of a real purple patch, Alberto Gonzalez’s men have failed to find any kind of stability this season. Essentially sat in Segunda limbo and watching their play-off dreams go up in smoke, the Clockwork Cheese should be bracing themselves for another stern examination this weekend. Last seen falling to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Granada, Sunday’s hosts have also shown some recent defensive struggles. In fact, Albacete have shipped a pair of goals in their previous three consecutive showdowns against second-tier opposition. Pencilled in as a real underdog contender here, the former Real Betis coach has seen his squad gain an unwanted reputation for their struggles on the road. Including a 1-0 defeat against Burgos last month, Gonzalez’s side have managed to claim just a single win from any of their last eight away fixtures – a run that stems all the way back to November 30th. Likewise, hit with an action-packed 3-2 loss when they travelled to Elche last season, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.

Bet: Elche 7/10 to beat Albacete in Sunday’s Segunda showdown @ BetUS
