Competition: National League

Market: Gateshead double chance

Odds: 2/3 @ 1xBet

Looking to extend their stay in the play-off places, Gateshead will welcome Altrincham to Tyneside on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Gateshead might have suffered major frustration last season as they narrowly missed out on booking a play-off ticket, Alun Armstrong’s men haven’t shown any signs of a hangover this time around. Despite opening the new campaign with an empathic 3-0 drumming against Southend on August 9th, the Tynesideres have come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Mounting a second-half comeback against Aldershot over the weekend as they eventually snatched a thrilling 3-3 stalemate, the former Darlington boss has seen his squad suffer just a single defeat from any of their previous five National League appearances. Likewise, landing an action-packed 4-3 win against Yeovil on August 25th, Wednesday’s hosts have mustered seven points from their last three outings. Pencilled in as a standout contender in midweek, it should also be highlighted that Armstrong’s play-off contenders have found a clinical edge in the final third. In fact, Gateshead have notched nine goals on their three-match unbeaten flurry.

As for the visitors, while Altrincham might have found themselves at the heart of their own respective play-off scrap last season, the Robins have come crashing back down to earth this time around. Despite landing a 2-0 win at home against Solihull Moors on August 25th, it appears that was just a minor boost for Phil Parkinson’s downbeat squad. Making an immediate return to losing ways over the weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Eastleigh, Wednesday’s guests have lost four of their previous five National League appearances and have come under some increasing scrutiny. Including another 2-1 defeat against Morecambe last month, Altrincham have also shown some real defensive struggles. It should be noted, the Manchester-based outfit have shipped a pair of goals in five of their first six showdowns so far this season. Starting to worry they could be dragged into a relegation scrap, Parkinson’s side look set for another tricky test here.

Bet: Gateshead double chance against Altrincham 2/3 for Wednesday’s National League contest @ 1xBet
