Competition: NPL Victoria
Market: Heidelberg United to win both halves
Odds: 19/20 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their stellar purple patch, Heidelberg will welcome Port Melbourne to the Olympic Park on Friday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Heidelberg might have got the 2025 campaign underway with a 3-2 defeat against the Melbourne Knights on February 6th, John Anastasiadis’ camp have come roaring back in a remarkable fashion. Smelling what is a golden opportunity this weekend, the Yellows are enjoying what has become a remarkable purple patch. Last seen claiming an eye-catching 2-1 victory away at Oakleigh, the former Western United coach finds the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Signing off April with a 3-1 win against Avondale, Heidelberg have won all of their previous seven consecutive NPL Victoria appearances. With their sights now firmly set on mounting a genuine title charge, Friday’s hosts have also found a major clinical edge in the final third. Including a 4-1 romp against Green Gully last month, Anastasiadis’ high-flying squad have notched a staggering 22 goals on their seven-match winning run. Knowing that they can skyrocket their way to the top of the NPL Victoria standings here, Heidelberg should be smelling a golden opportunity this week.
As for the visitors, sat rock-bottom of the table, Port Melbourne have continued on a public rut since opening up the 2025 campaign. Suffering last-gasp heartbreak at home against Altona Magic earlier in the month as they eventually had to settle for a pulsate 3-3 stalemate, the Sharks have collected just a single point from any of their previous four NPL Victoria appearances. Signing off April with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Dandenong City, Friday’s guests have also mustered just a sole win from any of their last eight attempts – a rut that stems back to February 28th. With their glaring issues underlined by a 5-1 drumming against Dandenong Thunder on April 5th, Port Melbourne couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge here. It should also be noted, continuing on from last season, the Sharks have lost all of their last nine straight showdowns away from the SS Anderson Reserve. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a routine home victory here.
