Competition: Ligue 1

Market: Marseille win

Odds: 8/15 @ BetUS

Simply looking to widen their buffer in the Champions League spots this weekend, Marseille will welcome Lens to the Stade Velodrome.

Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend as they secured a routine 2-0 victory at home against Nantes, Marseille appear to be cruising their way to a lucrative Champions League ticket in 2025. Continuing to shine since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival last summer, Los Phoceens will be looking to lay down another marker here. Opening February with an action-packed 3-2 win against historic rivals Lyon, the former Brighton boss has seen his squad muster 12 points from their previous five Ligue 1 appearances. With their recent purple patch highlighted by a 5-1 romp against St. Etienne on February 15th, Marseille have also impressed with their dominance on home soil. In fact, De Zerbi’s side have won each of their previous three Ligue 1 showdowns at the Stade Velodrome by an aggregate score of 10-3. Likewise, Saturday’s hosts have recorded 13 points from their last five top-flight matchups in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, although Lens might have signed off January with back-to-back Ligue 1 victories, Will Still’s camp have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Suffering what was an infamous collapse on home soil last weekend as they fell to a 4-3 loss at the hands of Le Havre, the former Reims boss appears to have some mounting pressure on his shoulders. Watching their European dreams take a major dent over the past month and tumbling down the Ligue 1 standings, Lens have lost each of their previous four consecutive top-flight appearances. With their nightmare rut underlined by a 3-1 defeat against Nantes on February 23rd, Saturday’s guests have shown some worrying defensive issues. In fact, Still’s downbeat squad have conceded 11 goals on their four-match losing run. Hit with a 3-1 loss when they welcomed Marseille to town for their reverse meeting on November 23rd, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
