Competition: USL Championship
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 5/6 @ BetUS
Looking to extend their buffer at the top of the Western Conference standings, FC Tulsa will travel to a struggling Monterey Bay in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, while Monterrey Bay might have clinched a much-welcomed 2-1 victory against Orange County on July 12th, it appears that was just a minor boost for the California-based outfit. Last seen getting hit with a shock 2-1 loss away at AV Alta while in USL Cup action, Jordan Stewart’s camp have lost six of their previous seven appearances across all competitions – a rut that stems back to a 2-1 win against Lexington on June 8th. Continuing to tumble down the Western Conference standings, the Union are now only just clinging onto a play-off spot. With their recent issues highlighted by a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Indy Eleven last month, Monterey Bay are also desperately seeking some kind of defensive stability. It should be highlighted, Thursday’s hosts have failed to register a single clean sheet across any format since the end of May.
As for the visitors, while Monterrey Bay might be in the midst of a real struggle, Tulsa are enjoying what has been a real purple patch. Last seen clinching an action-packed 3-2 victory at home against Loudon, Luke Spencer’s men hold a five-point buffer at the top of the table and they will certainly be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Clinching a 2-1 win when they welcomed Thursday’s hosts to Oklahoma on July 17th, the Roughnecks will be seeking a repeat performance in midweek. Making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend, Tulsa have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine matchups across all competitions – a run that stems back to June 1st. Despite failing to muster a clean sheet in their last eight outings, it should be noted that the Western Conference leaders have bagged at least a pair of goals in four of their previous five USL showdowns.
