Two camps who are enduring their own respective Serie A nightmares, Pisa will welcome Verona to Tuscany on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Pisa might have only made their famous Serie A return this season, the Nerazzurri have drastically failed to deal with the steep leap up in opposition. Last seen heading into October’s international break with another worrying performance as they fell to a routine 4-0 drumming at the hands of Bologna, Alberto Gilardino’s side are pencilled in as a standout contender to be hit with an immediate second-tier return this time around. Despite signing off September with a 0-0 stalemate at home against Fiorentina, the Tuscany-based outfit have collected just two points from their first six Serie A appearances. Marking their return from the fortnight interval sat rock-bottom of the table, Pisa have also continued to show some real issues in the final third. Watching their Coppa Italia adventure come to an end on September 25th as they slumped to a 1-0 loss against Torino, Saturday’s hosts have now drawn a blank in five of their last six matchups across all fronts.
As for the visitors, only mustering a single win from any of their final nine straight Serie A appearances last season, Verona have once again shown a string of glaring issues this time around. Last seen heading into October’s fortnight interval with a toothless 1-0 loss at home against Sassuolo, the Mastiffs also mark their return to top-flight action this weekend scrapping it out in the relegation zone. Signing off September with a routine 2-0 defeat away at Roma, Paolo Zanetti’s side have failed to win any of their first six Serie A appearances (three defeats, three draws). Likewise, watching their respective Coppa Italia adventure come to an and on September 24th as they suffered penalty shootout frustration at home against Serie B outfit Venezia, the former Empoli boss has seen his downbeat squad shown their own respective attacking issues. With the two historic meetings between Saturday’s opponents only producing a pair of goals at both ends of the pitch, we could be set for a cagey affair this weekend.
