Looking to extend their buffer in the play-off places, Pittsburgh will welcome Miami FC to the Highmark Stadium in the early hours of Wednesday.
Starting with the hosts, suffering US Open Cup heartbreak last weekend, Pittsburgh will be seeking an immediate response here. Leading the chase to book another play-off ticket this season and hoping to widen their buffer over the chasing pack, Bob Lilley’s men have lost just one of their previous eight appearances across all competitions within 90 minutes. Getting July underway with a 1-0 victory against New Mexico, the Hounds will also be excited by their continued success on home soil. Including a 2-1 win against Pamper Bay on June 22nd, the Pennsylvania-based outfit have registered 10 points from their previous four USL showdowns at the Highmark Stadium. Pencilled in as a standout contender when they return to Eastern Conference action in midweek, it should also be highlighted that Pittsburgh have suffered just a single defeat in front of their own supporters since the start of May.
As for the visitors, watching their USL Cup charge come to an end last weekend as they fell to a 2-1 loss at home against Tormenta, Miami are enduring what has been a worrying rut. Only just hanging onto their spot in the play-off places thanks to their goal difference, Gaston Maddoni’s side have failed to win any of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Slumping to a woeful 3-0 drumming at the hands of Charleston earlier in the month, the Florida-based outfit have also shown some extended issues at both ends of the pitch. Signing off June with a 2-0 loss against Detroit, Miami have also gained an unwanted reputation for their struggles away from the Pitball Stadium. In fact, Wednesday’s guests have lost their previous four consecutive showdowns on the road by an aggregate score of 9-1.
