Two camps who are sat firmly at the foot of the Championship standings, Sheffield Wednesday will welcome Norwich to Hillsborough in midweek for what is a real relegation six-pointer.
Starting with the hosts, officially placed into administration last week and dealing with what has been an extended financial crisis behind the scenes at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday know that it will take a minor miracle in the race to keep hold of their Championship status. Hit with a 12-point deduction and sat rock-bottom of the table, Henrik Pedersen’s men are simply trying to soldier on. Despite being last seen putting in a gritty performance away at play-off dreamers West Brom as they snatched a 0-0 stalemate at the Hawthorns, that is the only point that Wednesday have registered from any of their previous five Championship appearances. Heading into October’s international break with a woeful 5-0 drumming at the hands of Coventry, Pedersen’s camp have also collected just a sole Championship win since opening up the 2025/26 campaign. Including a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough last month, the Owls have also shown some real attacking struggles. It should be noted, the midweek hosts have recorded just a single strike in almost 300 minutes of action.
As for the visitors, while Liam Manning might still remain in the dugout at Carrow Road, the former Swansea boss finds the pressure on his shoulders at a major boiling point. Opening Wednesday’s trip to Hillsborough sat in the relegation zone and breaking a string of unwanted records this season, the Canaries have rightfully come under tremendous scrutiny and fans around Norfolk are making their frustrations heard. Suddenly facing a real battle to drag themselves away from a bottom-three scrap, Manning’s side have lost all of their previous six consecutive Championship appearances. In fact, Norwich have remarkably collected just two points from any of their last nine straight outings – a rut that stems all the way back to a 2-0 victory against Blackburn on August 30th. Facing what is a must-win showdown here, Wednesday’s guests have also shown their own glaring attacking issues. It should be highlighted, the Canaries have recorded just a sole strike in any of their four appearances since returning from October’s international break.
