Competition: Championship
Market: Wrexham win
Odds: 11/10 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their recent flurry, Wrexham will welcome Derby to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Wrexham might have opened up their maiden Championship adventure in the midst of a public blip, Phil Parkinson’s camp have certainly turned a much-welcomed corner on either side of September’s international break. Last seen earlier in the week extending on their EFL Cup campaign as they collected a 2-0 victory at home against League One outfit Reading, the former Bolton boss has eased some of the reported pressure on his shoulders. Landing an action-packed 3-2 win away at Norwich last weekend, the Red Dragons have won four of their previous five appearances across all competitions and they have found a clinical edge in the final third. Heading into September’s fortnight interval with a 2-0 victory against Millwall in south London, Wrexham have bagged at least a pair of strikes in seven of their last eight outings across all fronts. However, still sat in the bottom-half of the Championship standings, Parkinson’s men will be desperate to make a statement here.
As for the visitors, spending the whole of last season scrapping it out at the foot of the Championship table, Derby only just clung to their second-tier status back in May. While John Eustace’s side might have marked their return from September’s International break with an essential 1-0 victory against West Brom, it appears that was just a minor boost for the Rams. Making an immediate return to losing ways last weekend as they slumped to a 1-0 loss at home against Preston, the former Blackburn boss has seen his downbeat squad muster just a single Championship win since opening up the new campaign. Crashing out of the EFL Cup on August 26th following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League outfit Burnley, Derby have shown some issues in the final third. Failing to register more than a single strike in four of their previous five outings across all competitions, Eustace’s squad are pencilled in as a standout relegation contender this season.
