Bolton have decided to appeal the red card handed to defender Gary Cahill against Tottenham on Saturday.
Cahill was given his marching orders in the English Premier League encounter after just 17 minutes for a foul on Scott Parker just inside his own half.
Bolton already trailed 1-0 at that point, but from then on their chances of a comeback were dashed and they slumped to a 3-0 defeat.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle was left angered at the decision and after confronting referee Stuart Attwell at half-time, he made his feelings known after the match had ended.
“To say I am angry about it is a bit of an understatement,” Coyle said.
“I am totally bemused by the decision. Maybe it was a free-kick or a yellow card, but not a red.”
“If you understand the terminology it has to be a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Now Scott Parker is a fantastic player but he took a touch with his left foot, went out to the wing, 50 yards from goal. We had Zat Knight in the middle and other defenders coming back.”
Cahill – who would receive an automatic three-match ban for the red card – will be hopeful of getting his suspension reduced or even overturned.
Bolton lie 19th on the Premier League table.
