Bournemouth 0-0 Brentford: Iraola´s side fail to convert dominance into victory

Bournemouth were left to rue a profligate showing after Tuesday’s 0-0 Premier League draw with Brentford at the Vitality Stadium.

Andoni Iraola’s side dominated the first half without reward as James Hill and Ryan Christie went close to breaching the Brentford defence, the latter rounding Caoimhin Kelleher but firing wide.

Marcus Tavernier tested the reflexes of Kelleher in the opening period, though he could not have imagined the frustration that would follow in the second half.

The Bournemouth midfielder struck the woodwork twice but felt he should have had a penalty when Michael Kayode appeared to clip his heels after the pair attacked Alex Jimenez’s delightful low cross.

But Djordje Petrovic still had to be alert at the other end, first denying Dango Ouattara’s half-volley before palming away when Sepp van den Berg connected well with a downwards header.

Evanilson thought he had won it late on but saw his well-taken strike ruled out for a clear offside, while Junior Kroupi flicked narrowly wide of the bottom-right corner in the closing stages.

And neither side were able to find a late winner as Bournemouth’s unbeaten stretch extended to nine games, and Brentford claimed a valuable point in their European bid.

Data Debrief: Cherries fail to down Bees again

Bournemouth have still never won in eight attempts in the Premier League against Brentford (D3 L5), with the Bees the only side that they have faced without yet winning in the competition.

But it was a familiar story for Iraola’s side, who have drawn more Premier League games than any other side this season (13).

Indeed, their 13 draws are their most in a single top-flight campaign, but Iraola may have felt Bournemouth should have won, given they accumulated 1.99 expected goals (xG) to Brentford’s 0.4.

And while Keith Andrews may have been frustrated to not make it six wins in seven away league games, Brentford may cherish this point come the end of the season.
