Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs says he would jump at the opportunity to re-sign Diego.
The Brazilian playmaker is currently on-loan to Atletico Madrid from Bremen’s Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg, meaning a return to the Weserstadion seems unlikely.
But Allofs has confessed that he would dearly love to bring the player back to Bremen, where he spent three seasons and scored 54 goals in 132 appearances.
“We had a great time with Diego, and he always behaved very professionally,” Allofs told Bild.
“A transfer seems difficult at the moment, but we will definitely look into it if the opportunity comes up.”
Diego is under contract to Wolfsburg until 2014, having joined from Juventus in August 2010.
He has made 15 La Liga appearances for Atletico this campaign, scoring once.
