Bronze included in Wiegman´s first England squad since Euros triumph

Sarina Wiegman has named her first England squad since the Lionesses’ triumph at Euro 2025, with Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze among those selected.

England face Brazil and Australia in two international friendlies later this month in the first of four “Homecoming Series” matches following their European success in the summer.

Bronze revealed after the Lionesses’ penalty shootout victory over Spain in the showpiece match in July that she had played the entirety of the tournament with a fractured tibia.

The 33-year-old made her return to action on Sunday, replacing Ellie Carpenter in the second minute of second-half stoppage time during their 1-0 win over Tottenham in the Women’s Super League.

Of the 25-player squad, 20 were part of Wiegman’s ranks for the Euros, with captain Leah Williamson, Lauren James, and Lauren Hemp all missing out with respective injuries.

The Lionesses are also without Millie Bright, who announced her retirement from international football earlier this week after making 88 appearances for her country.

Wiegman has named three uncapped players in her ranks, with Arsenal duo Katie Reid and Taylor Hinds picked for the squad, while Lucia Kendall has also received a maiden call-up for the Lionesses.

Laura Blindkilde Brown and Missy Bo Kearns also return after missing out on the Euros squad, with Niamh Charles included after recovering from an ankle injury, and Grace Clinton was also named despite being left out of Manchester City’s squad for Sunday’s win over Liverpool with a knock.

The clash with Brazil, which takes place on October 25 at the Etihad Stadium, will be the first meeting between the sides since the Finalissima in April 2023, when Ella Toone scored in a 1-1 draw at Wembley before Wiegman’s side were again successful in a penalty shootout.
