Andrea Cambiaso revealed he held talks with Manchester City over a potential move in January, but insisted he is “truly happy” to be playing for Juventus.

Cambiaso, who joined Juventus from Genoa in 2022, enjoyed a breakthrough year last season, scoring twice and assisting four times in 33 Serie A appearances.

Indeed, only Manuel Locatelli (49) won more tackles for Juventus in the top flight than Cambiaso (30), with the Italian also creating 34 chances, the third-highest total in the team.

His fine performances attracted interest from Pep Guardiola’s team, who spent big money in the January transfer window after their struggles in the Premier League.

The Citizens welcomed Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, with those signings helping them finish in the Champions League places.

City also signed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Marcus Bettinelli ahead of their Club World Cup campaign.

Cambiaso has four years left on his current deal after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with Juventus in May last year.

After spending the 2022-23 campaign on loan with fellow Serie A side Bologna, he has missed just nine Serie A games over the last two seasons.

But the 25-year-old remains committed to Igor Tudor’s team, but said he was flattered to be linked with a club as big as City so early in his career.

“Let’s say they have almost unlimited financial resources – their ownership is incredibly wealthy – so I’m not surprised they’ve spent so much on the transfer market,” he said.

“In January, it was nice just to talk, but I’m happy to be here and to wear this shirt. I was never really close anyway.

“It was nice and flattering to be linked with clubs like that, but I’ll say it again. I’m truly happy to be playing here.”
