Cameroon reduce Eto´o ban

Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o has had his 15-match ban cut to eight months for his role in a players’ strike in November.

The Cameroon Football Federation disciplinary committee reduced the sanctions on Friday, meaning the former African Player of the Year will miss just four official matches.

Vice-captain Enoh Eyon, who was initially slapped with a two-game ban, also had his suspension altered after a meeting on Friday at the Hotel Mont-Fede in Yaounde.

Eyong will now stay out of the team for two months, which practically means his two-game ban does not change because he will likely miss the two fixtures of the Lions set to take place within that period.

The pair were punished for their involvement in the team’s strike action which led to the cancellation of a friendly match against Algeria because they had not been paid promised bonuses.

The $2000 fine imposed on Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou Ekotto for his repetitive absence from the national team has been quashed.

Marseille’s Nicolas Nkoulou is now Cameroon’s new captain.

The FA also named former captain and all-time most capped player of the Indomitable Lions Rigobert Song as team manager of the home-based senior national team known as ‘Equipe A’.
