Jamie Carragher insists he is not thinking about retirement despite finding first-team opportunities at Liverpool harder to come by in recent times.
Prior to Saturday’s lacklustre goalless draw at home to Stoke, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish suggested a role as an ambassador would be waiting for Carragher when he finally hangs up his boots, similar to the one Steven Gerrard has agreed to take on at the end of his current contract.
But while Carragher admitted he is eager to discuss this idea with his manager, he said the thought of retirement has not entered his mind.
“If the manager has mentioned it (an ambassador role) I’m sure we will discuss it in the future,” the 33-year-old said.
“But that’s not something I want to talk about at the minute.”
“I still want to concentrate on playing. I want to get as much out of my playing career as I possibly can.”
“I’m the same as Steven – we love playing for the club and we just want to help in any way that we can.”
