The San Diego Chargers snapped a six-game losing streak in the NFL on Monday, posting a 38-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Philip Rivers comfortably won the battle of the quarterbacks, completing 22 of 28 passes for 294 yards with three touchdowns, while Blaine Gabbert made 19 of 33 for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jaguars led the contest briefly late in the second quarter when wide receiver Cecil Shorts collected a pass from Gabbert for a touchdown, but Rivers assumed control late in the period with touchdown passes to Vincent Brown and Vincent Jackson.

San Diego scored one touchdown in each of the final two quarters, from Malcolm Floyd – off a 52-yard pass from Rivers – and Ryan Mathews, to run away with the game.

Despite the win, the Chargers are still struggling in the AFC West division, level on a 5-7 record with the Kansas City Chiefs at the foot of the table.

For the Jaguars it was their third loss in a row and saw them slump to 3-9, with only the 0-12 Indianapolis Colts below them in the AFC South.

It also means new Jaguars head coach Mel Tucker began his reign with a loss, after the 39-year-old replaced the long-serving Jack Del Rio, who was sacked on Tuesday.
