Cherki confirms City move is ´getting done´

Manchester City target Rayan Cherki confirmed that his move to the Premier League was in motion following France’s 5-4 defeat to Spain in Thursday’s Nations League semi-final.

The Lyon winger played his part in a thrilling game by scoring France’s second goal as they recovered from 5-1 down to make it 5-4, also assisting a Randal Kolo Muani goal in stoppage time.

But Les Bleus were unable to force extra time and will now face Germany in the third-place play-off on Sunday.

But after the conclusion of the match, Cherki’s immediate future was understandably of interest to reporters following a season in which he scored 12 goals and contributed 20 assists in all competitions for Lyon.

The 21-year-old gave them a nugget before quickly turning his attention to Sunday’s game.

“Yes… it’s getting done. But you already know my answer, everybody knows,” he told broadcaster Telefoot, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“But there’s still a game to play. Now we have to enjoy and give everything, but after it will be done.”

Should Cherki be Manchester City’s next signing, he will be the fifth player to join the club since the start of the 2024-25 season, following Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Nico Gonzalez and Omar Marmoush.

Following a third place finish in the Premier League, in which Pep Guardiola’s side finished 13 points back on champions Liverpool in an unsuccessful title defence, there is expected to be significant transfer activity at the club in the off-season.
