Tinashe Nengomasha says Kaizer Chiefs are well positioned to mount a strong challenge for the Premier Soccer League title.

The veteran Zimbabwean midfielder – who was part of the title-winning Kaizer Chiefs team of the 2004-05 season – says recent results show that the Naturena-based giants have now put behind their in-house problems.

Placed third on the log with 28 points after 15 matches, Chiefs are just three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“There were some issues that may have affected us on the field but this is now in the past,” said Nengomasha.

“We did not perform to our maximum potential during the first 15 matches but the good thing is that we are in a strong position.”

“The League title is still within reach because we are not too far away from the log leaders. We just have to make sure that we collect as many points as possible in our next games.”

The midfielder – who is the interim skipper in the absence of an injured Itumeleng Khune – also conceded the club’s failure in cup competitions this season.

“There is still the Nedbank Cup to look forward to and the fact that we have not had much success in cup competitions will make us hungry to win this one,” he said.
