Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic says his biggest challenge is sorting out players’ contracts.
Chiefs are facing a precarious situation with more than 10 players out of contract next June.
Players who are facing an uncertain future at the club include Siphiwe Tshabalala, Itumeleng Khune, Josta Dladla, Mandla Masango and George Lebese.
Players whose contracts expire in six months will be free to negotiate with other teams from January.
Vermezovic said players who have no idea what the future holds for them may lose focus on the job at hand, which is winning the league.
“A lot of players in our team will have their contracts expire in June and Bobby (Motaung) is working on these things,” Vermezovic told Kickoff.com.
According to FIFA transfer rules, “A player can sign a pre-contract with another club for a free transfer if the player’s contract with their existing club has six months or less remaining”.
This means that Chiefs have two weeks to convince players to sign new contracts before the other teams are allowed to enter the fray from January.
“I hope that Bobby will find a solution and that all of them can sign their new contracts before we come back from the (two-month) break. It will be important that players face the second round with clear heads,” Vermezovic said.
