Chiefs keen on Mathoho

Erick Mathoho’s chances of securing a move from Bloemfontein Celtic to Kaizer Chiefs are ’50/50′ according to his agent Tim Sukazi.

Sukazi admitted there have been talks between the Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic over a proposed transfer for the 21-year-old defender, but nothing concrete has come from it yet.

“Chiefs have contacted Celtic over the possibility of buying Erick, but nothing has been agreed as yet,” he told KickOff.com. “At the moment I would say the likelihood of a deal happening is 50/50.”

Asked about a likely transfer fee, Sukazi said: “Look, he is still young and only in his second season in the PSL, but he is a very, very promising young player, so I would say nothing less than three million rand.”

That would represent some excellent business for Celtic, who got the player for nothing from lower league side Dolphins two seasons ago and, as Sukazi explains, the Free State club could end up with a lot more than that.

“If a deal is struck between the two clubs we will definitely insist on a clause which would allow Erick to move overseas if the right offer comes along,” he said.

“Erick’s future definitely lies in Europe, and we could have a few more trials lined up at the end of the season.”

“And I’m sure Celtic will add a clause to the contract that would entitle them to a percentage of the sell-on fee which could, in a year or two, be very significant.”
