Lyon booked a place in the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Lille on Wednesday.
The odds were in favour of the visiting Lille at Stade de Gerland when Lyon had defender Mouhamadou Dabo sent off for a reckless challenge after 10 minutes and Joe Cole opened the scoring soon after.
But Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom levelled before the break for Lyon when he placed home after Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama could only parry Michel Bastos’ free-kick.
The 10-man comeback was complete when Lisandro Lopez hit what proved to be a 65th-minute winner, side-footing in Bastos’ cut-back.
Lille midfielder Mathieu Debuchy was given his marching orders nine minutes from time as Lyon sealed a spot in the final four.
Awaiting Lyon in the semi-finals are Lorient, who recorded a 1-0 win over Le Mans.
Substitute Gilles Sunu netted the winner in the 71st minute to end the Ligue 2 side’s cup run.
In the other game, Nice advanced with a 5-3 penalty shootout win against Dijon after the teams had played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.
Rene Marsiglia’s Nice twice came from behind in regulation time, before they again trailed when Eric Bautheac netted a 117th-minute penalty.
But Nice levelled for a third time, this time through Luciano Fabian Monzon, and they won the penalty shootout to set up a meeting with defending champions Marseille.
