Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has revealed his admiration for Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Dante, ahead of their clash on Friday.
The Brazilian has already voiced his desire to play for a big European club of the Bavarians’ calibre, and Heynckes has admitted the 28-year-old has improved significantly.
“I must say that he has developed well and had some excellent games,” Heynckes told Express.de.
All eyes are set to be on Marco Reus in the Borussia Park clash, though, after the Germany international spurned Bayern Munich’s advances in favour of Borussia Dortmund.
Heynckes revealed he had known for some time that the 22-year-old would be joining Juergen Klopp’s men, and said the striker would have struggled to hold down a regular place with Bayern.
“Every team has a player like Marco Reus who can make the difference,” he said.
“Incidentally, I knew long ago that he would go to BVB (Dortmund). It’s the right decision, with us the competition would be much greater.”
Bayern Munich started their campaign with a surprise defeat at the hands of Lucien Favre’s side, and Heynckes has called upon his troops to make amends.
“We want revenge. But this is difficult. Gladbach’s confidence is back and it strengthens them. They are driven by their home fans. One can expect an exciting game.”
The coach also said he will forgive centre-back Breno for getting a tattoo while he was on sick leave, but warned the defender is riding his luck.
Breno previously made the headlines for all the wrong reasons for allegedly burning down his own house, while also criticising Bayern via Twitter.
However Heynckes does not plan to punish the Brazilian for his latest incident.
“Obviously this is very unfortunate that the lad has done that, this should normally not be the case,” Heynckes told TZ.
“But at the moment it is not the time to hammer the lad.”
“He had signs of inflammation, but it is not like he was bedridden. But the timing of course is very unfortunate, we do not need to talk about it.”
“I’ve already talked to him about the other situation earlier this week, and we will now speak to him again about why he has carried out an unfortunate action.”
“One should not bash him, he needs more help and support. We have a lot of patience and sympathy. But he cannot stretch it.”
