Dewsbury-Hall calls early suspension ‘mind boggling’ after fifth yellow card

Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall described it as “mind-boggling” that he has already been suspended after collecting five yellow cards in just six Premier League matches.

Dewsbury-Hall received a booking for a challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters during Monday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham and will miss Sunday’s clash against Crystal Palace due to suspension.

The midfielder, who joined Everton from Chelsea in August for around £28m, has started all six of the Toffees’ league games and has registered a goal and an assist so far.

His fourth yellow card came during a 2-1 defeat to Merseyside rivals Liverpool for taking a quick free-kick, a decision teammate Jack Grealish slammed, saying he had “never seen that in my life.”

“Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I might be, but some of these decisions are so hard to take. Mind-boggling,” the 27-year-old wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Toffees sit ninth on eight points after being held to a draw by Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers, with Michael Keane’s first-half header cancelled out by Jarrod Bowen’s 65th minute equaliser.

Keane’s opening goal marked Everton’s 361st headed strike in Premier League history, matching Manchester United for the most ever in the competition.

David Moyes also waded in on the decision to book the former Chelsea and Leicester City man, with his side registering the joint-second-most yellow cards (16) in the Premier League so far this season.

“I think the decisions we’ve had at the moment [have been frustrating], but I think all the managers might be saying that at the moment,” Moyes said.

“I mean there’s been a general poor level at the moment. I thought the decision on Dewsbury-Hall was a really shabby decision.”
