An extra-time brace from Tim Matavz saw PSV Eindhoven move into the quarter-finals of the Dutch Cup with a 2-1 win over Twente on Thursday.
With the score locked at 0-0 after 90 minutes, Matavz’s strike in the 102nd minute of the tie at De Grolsch Veste looked to have been enough to secure his side’s progression, but the home side had other ideas.
A penalty from Marc Janko after 110 minutes levelled proceedings once more, but just as it seemed penalties were on the cards Matavz bobbed up with his second goal four minutes later to see PSV through to the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere on Thursday, Vitesse Arnhem secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win away at Eerste Divisie outfit FC Eindhoven.
Vitesse, who are sixth in the Eredivisie, looked to be in trouble just before the hour mark when they had Georgian defender Guram Kashia sent off for a second caution.
Despite the setback, they took the lead after 79 minutes thanks to a goal from winger Giorgi Chanturia, although Eindhoven hit back two minutes later through Sjors Paridaans.
Vitesse would not be denied, however, and an injury-time goal from Belgian midfielder Stanley Aborah Jr was enough to move them into the last eight.
