Roma coach Luis Enrique has decided to put negotiations over a new contract on the backburner.
Roma director Franco Baldini revealed on Wednesday that Enrique had been offered a contract extension as a reward for his ‘good work’ at the club.
However, the former Barcelona B coach is no rush to put pen to paper on a new deal.
“I still have 18 months left on my contract,” the Spanish coach said at a press conference.
“This is an eternity in football and if I lose four matches in a row I will be considered an idiot.”
“I still have a lot to do to deserve an extension, we did not discuss this because it does not make any sense.”
As the Romans club prepare for Saturday’s visit of Cesena, the Spanish coach confirmed fears that Daniele De Rossi is in doubt for the match.
“We hope he will not be out for long,” Enrique added. “I think he will be ready to play very soon.”
“We do not know if he will be available for tomorrow’s game. This injury does not prevent him from playing, but it causes him pain.”
Roma sit seventh in the Serie A standings, 10 points off the top of the table.
