Enrique: Roma at best against Bologna

Roma boss Luis Enrique hailed his team’s 2-0 Serie A win over Bologna their ‘best performance of the season’.

Goals from Rodrigo Taddei and Pablo Osvaldo saw Enrique’s side to the victory at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Wednesday and into seventh on the table.

Enrique, who is in his first season in charge of the club, said the win was their best showing of the campaign so far.

“I think this was the best performance of the season, with great balance between the two phases of play,” he said.

“We had total control of the game and created many scoring opportunities. Bologna have a lot of quality in attack, but never caused us problems and this makes me happy.”

“This is not the definitive line-up, as everyone is important and can earn their place in the starting 11, such as Fabio Simplicio, who was previously on the margins.”

“Now I go relaxed into the winter break where I can eat panettone and pandoro, as very few people believed I’d still be in this job for Christmas.”

Both of Roma’s goals came in the first half, and they cruised to collect the three points with Bologna defender Daniele Portanova red-carded in the 78th minute.

Roma veteran Francesco Totti has again become a key for Enrique’s team despite not yet scoring this season, and the Spaniard praised the 35-year-old attacker.

“I have a special rapport with Francesco because I played against him in my career. I always do whatever I consider to be best for the team,” Enrique said.

“The group is more important than any individual and I hope everyone understands that.”

“Only once everyone takes part when attacking and defending can things become easier, as they are for a big club.”
