(GSM) – Estudiantes remained a point up on Argentinos Juniors in the Argentine Clausura on Sunday after both sides recorded 2-1 road wins. Elsewhere, Independiente’s hopes took a hit in a 3-2 loss to Boca Juniors.
Estudiantes got off to a poor start in their match at Chacarita Juniors as Omar Zarif put the home side in front on 19 minutes.
But the dismissal of Chacarita defender Lisandro López on 31 minutes conceded a penalty that was converted by Mauro Boselli.
Three minutes later, it was 2-1 to Estudiantes when Christian Cellay found the back of the net.
That proved to be all the scoring, and Estudiantes held onto their lead with two matches to play.
Argentinos Juniors, meanwhile, stayed within reach as they also came from behind to beat San Lorenzo.
Emiliano Alfaro’s goal on 40 minutes had given San Lorenzo a 1-0 half-time lead, but Ismael Sosa equalized for the visitors on the hour mark.
Then, with just a minute to play, Sosa scored a second goal to seal the three points for Juniors.
Independiente’s title hopes look all but over after they were beaten 3-2 at home by Boca.
After Ignacio Piatti fired Independiente in front on the half-hour, Fabián Monzón and Martín Palermo scored rapid-fire goals to have Boca in front 2-1 at the break.
The visitors continued to play well in the second half, and they went 3-1 up with three minutes to go as Pablo Mouche scored before being sent off.
Leonel Núñez scored a late consolation for Independiente.
