Borussia Moenchengladbach coach Lucien Favre believes that it would be a ‘miracle’ if his side were to finish in the top four of the Bundesliga.
The Borussia Park side have impressed this season, banishing the memory of their previous relegation battle by going into the winter break four points clear of Werder Bremen, who sit fifth.
However, Favre has warned fans that it will be a difficult task to maintain their form in the second half of the season.
“It’s going to be hard, if not impossible, to improve,” Favre said. “Fourth place is already a miracle. Avoiding relegation last summer, which we only managed via the play-off, is already a mini-sensation.”
“We must not forget that this very same team avoided relegation by a hair’s breadth and now they have 33 points.”
Favre’s men restart their Bundesliga campaign with a clash against Bayern Munich, whom they defeated on the opening day of the season.
And Favre believes the rematch could be great, with both sides having progressed in the last five months.
“Our team has not lost any condition during the winter break. Bayern are certainly stronger than they were on the first day of the season, but we are also stronger than we were at the start.”
