´Feels like deja vu´ – Parker left frustrated as Burnley lose seventh straight match

Burnley boss Scott Parker was left frustrated with his side’s continuing defensive lapses as they fell to a seventh straight defeat after losing 3-2 to Fulham, which leaves them in deep relegation trouble.

The visitors took the lead inside the first 10 minutes, as Quilindschy Hartman failed to properly defend Harry Wilson’s corner at the near post, allowing Emile Smith Rowe to score from close range.

The Clarets would equalise through Lesley Ugochukwu, but Fulham soon retook the lead as Calvin Bassey was left unmarked in the area and headed home from another Wilson cross.

The Welshman then continued his fine form in front of goal with the Cottagers’ third after the break, curling a shot into the bottom corner as Parker’s men were hit on the counter-attack.

Oliver Sonne scored his first goal for the club to set up a grandstand finish, but Fulham held on for their first win at Turf Moor since 1951, and Parker was left to rue similar failings at the back, with his side five points adrift of safety in 19th.

“These boys are giving me absolutely everything, but the facts are, in key moments, we’re giving ourselves a mountain to climb.

“In this division, it’s proven very difficult, we need to fix up on that.

“It’s frustrating, it’s disappointing, it’s two sloppy goals.”

Fulham moved up to 13th, seven points clear of the relegation zone, and Marco Silva was aware of the enormity of the result after his side sealed their second league win of the season on their travels.

“It’s a big one,” he told BBC Sport. “It’s a difficult place to come.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re on a bad run. We know if you’re on a bad run how much you want to change it.”

The Portuguese coach also praised the performance of Wilson, who was involved in all three goals and has now scored seven in his last eight games for club and country.

He said: “What a performance from him.

“He knows we need him, to work very hard, to help the team. He is more mature and he loves taking responsibility.”
