Fernandez: Iniesta is better than Messi

Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Fernandez believes Barcelona star Andres Iniesta is the best player in La Liga.

Fernandez, who last worked as Israel national team coach, has stressed that Iniesta always has the answer to everything, and is convinced that he is better than team-mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Everybody always talks about Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but for me Iniesta is the best player in the Spanish competition,” Fernandez told AS.

“He always does everything well. He directs play, provides assists and scores goals himself. He makes everything look easy and is a genius. You just know everything will be alright when he gets the ball.”

“There were doubts about him because of his fragile physique. Big and strong players dominated back then. Nowadays, the smaller players have taken over a bit.”

Fernandez also claimed his former club PSG should appoint Carlo Ancelotti as coach, while snapping up David Beckham as a big-name signing.

“The club wants to become a major European team. The arrival of David Beckham is also important for PSG,” he said.

“I think that Carlo Ancelotti will soon be the coach of PSG. Antoine Kombouare is a good coach but the new owners of PSG want a big name at the head of the team. It is no coincidence that Ancelotti has come to see Leonardo in Paris.”
