Former Los Angeles Galaxy and US defender Gregg Berhalter is the new coach of Swedish second division team Hammarby.
Berhalter, 38, has signed a two-year deal with a one-year team option to coach the side that finished 11th last season.
“Most importantly, we want to put a team on the field that is ready to win games. I am a fair coach and someone you can talk to, but I demand professionalism and hard work, and I will lead by example,” Berhalter told the club’s website.
Los Angeles Galaxy owners AEG also hold a 49 percent stake of Hammarby and AEG representative Chris Klein sits on the club’s board.
Klein and Berhalter are former Galaxy team-mates and it has been reported that Klein strongly recommended the American.
Berhalter has 44 international appearances and played for clubs in the Netherlands, England and Germany before joining the Galaxy in 2009, where he also served as assistant coach this year.
