Tottenham have signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on a long-term deal.

The former Chelsea midfielder has returned to London in a reported £34m deal, and though Spurs did not confirm the length of his contract, he is said to have put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Gallagher had looked set to move to Aston Villa earlier in the transfer window before Spurs swooped in to secure his signature.

The England international joined Atletico in 2024 and went on to make 77 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

However, of his 30 appearances in 2025-26, including the Club World Cup, only 10 of those have been from the start, while he has only managed one full 90 minutes.

“I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club,” he told the club’s website.

“I wanted to be a Spurs player, and thankfully, the club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly, and I’m ready to get on the pitch.

“I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.”

Gallagher has made 136 Premier League appearances across his spells at West Brom, Crystal Palace and Chelsea before moving to LaLiga.

Spurs were thought to be in the market for a midfielder after Rodrigo Bentancur was ruled out for the majority of the season with a hamstring injury, having undergone surgery.

Gallagher could make his debut at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, with struggling West Ham the visitors in the Premier League.
