AC Milan chief Adriano Galliani says the club’s priority in the January transfer window is to sign Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.
The Argentina international is the Serie A club’s number-one transfer target as they seek to replace Antonio Cassano, who is recovering from a heart surgery.
“I know that there was a meeting between (Tevez’s representative) Kia Joorabchian and City this morning (Tuesday), but I do not know what the outcome was,” Galliani told Sky Sport 24.
“Unless he signs for another club, we will wait, until 18:59 of January 31, to sign him.”
The Milan chief also denied suggestions that the club will offload one of their strikers, following suggestions that Alexandre Pato could leave in January.
“There is no chance that Pato will leave,” Galliani said. “If we sign Tevez or any other attacker, it is because of Cassano’s problem, but (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, Robinho and Pato are not on the market.”
Galliani said defender Taye Taiwo could leave in January, after the Nigeria international revealed his unhappiness at the lack of first-team action at the club.
“I have not read Taiwo’s interview, but I will,” Galliani said. “If he wants to leave on loan we will try to find a solution that suits everyone.”
