The president of the Ghana FA Kwesi Nyantakyi says the time has come for his country to win a fifth Africa Cup of Nations crown.

The administrator said that although pressure is mounting on his team to deliver because they are one of the favourites, he believes the players are ready for the tournament.

“We’re ready. We’re going for the ultimate,” Nyantakyi told Goal.com. “I also have that strong belief that this is our time. I’m optimistic.”

“The players have given the assurance that they are physically and mentally strong to live up to the expectation. Everybody is saying this is our time and it’s a strong indication that we are going for it.”

Ghana are currently based in South Africa, working hard in preparation for the 28th edition of the continental showpiece, and will play South Africa on Sunday in a friendly.

Ghana last won the cup in 1982 and were runners-up in Senegal in1992 and Angola in 2010.

With Egypt, Cameroon and Nigeria all missing out on the tournament, the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists will face strong opposition from Ivory Coast and Senegal for the trophy.
