Erling Haaland took full responsibility for his poor form in front of goal after Manchester City’s “embarrassing” defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
A brace from Kasper Hogh and a stunning curler from Jens Petter Hauge helped Bodo win 3-1, with Rayan Cherki pulling one back for City shortly before Rodri was sent off.
City suffered their first defeat when facing opposition from a particular nation for the very first time in a major European competition since March 2011, with that instance coming away to Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League (2-0 loss).
Bodo became only the sixth side to ever take a three-goal lead in a Champions League match against City, after Bayern Munich (October 2013), Barcelona (October 2016), Liverpool (April 2018), Sporting CP (November 2024), and Real Madrid (February 2025).
Haaland failed to hit the target with his three shots in the match, which amounted to 0.38 expected goals (xG), while he also had the fewest touches of any starter for City (11).
The Norway international has scored just once in his last eight games in all competitions, finding the back of the net from the penalty spot against Brighton in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old was disappointed, to say the least, after a losing return to his native Norway, with City’s hopes of finishing in the top eight taking a heavy blow.
“I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility for not being able to score the goals I should do,” Haaland told TNT Sports.
“I just apologise to everyone; every single Man City supporter and every single supporter that travelled today, because in the end it’s embarrassing.

“Bodo, they played some incredible football and in the end it was deserved. Honestly, I don’t know what to say because I don’t have the answers, and what I can say is sorry.
“I take full responsibility, together with Rodri, Tijjani [Reijnders]; us experienced players.
“I don’t want to blame anyone, but we need to take more responsibility, because in the end it’s not good enough.
“We’re Manchester City. We can’t go around and not win games. It can’t be like this.”
