Kasper Hjulmand urged Bayer Leverkusen to move on swiftly from their 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund.

Hjulmand was left to rue fine margins going against Leverkusen after they went down to Niko Kovac’s team on Saturday.

Aaron Anselmino and Karim Adeyemi scored for Dortmund before Christian Kofane set up a grandstand finish, but Leverkusen could not mount a comeback.

Leverkusen sit fourth in the Bundesliga, a point behind Dortmund, who they face again in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday, this time on the road.

“We are disappointed, not with our performance, but with the result. It was a close game, small details were decisive,” said Hjulmand, who has suffered just two league defeats since taking over at Leverkusen.

“We learned something from this match and hopefully we can do better in certain phases in Dortmund.

“We know we can do better. And we want to play with our identity in every game. Now we move on!”

It was a contest lacking in clear chances, with Leverkusen having 14 shots but only mustering 0.82 expected goals – an average of just 0.05 xG per attempt – while Dortmund only had seven shots in total.

“We didn’t manage to create anything decisive in the final third,” bemoaned Leverkusen’s Jonas Hofmann, while Robert Andrich said: “Dortmund were a touch more efficient.”
