´It´s not good news´ on Pedri, says Barcelona boss Flick

Hansi Flick is not expecting good news regarding the injury suffered by Pedri in Barcelona’s Champions League win over Slavia Prague.

Barca beat Slavia 4-2 on Wednesday to move ninth in the standings with one game of the league phase remaining. The top eight automatically qualify for the last 16.

Vasil Kusej put Slavia ahead inside 10 minutes, but Fermin Lopez’s double swung the game in Barca’s favour before the hosts levelled through Robert Lewandowski’s own goal.

Pedri teed up Fermin’s second goal, but he was forced off with a hamstring issue after an hour. Barca, though, restored their lead through the midfielder’s replacement Dani Olmo, before Lewandowski rounded off the win with a goal at the right end.

Flick conceded he is concerned by Pedri’s injury.

“I don’t know what he has exactly, but it’s the hamstring. It is what it is. Sometimes these things happen,” Flick told reporters.

“I don’t know how long he’ll be out. It’s not good news.

“We’ll see. Then Olmo came on and scored a goal. The substitution was a success, and the fourth goal came at just the right time, which is very good.”

Despite coming back to win, Barca have now gone 10 consecutive matches without keeping a clean sheet for the first time in their European Cup/Champions League history.

While Lewandowski became the first Barcelona player to score a goal and an own goal in the same Champions League match, Fermin took his tally of goal involvements in the competition this season to seven (five goals, two assists).

No other Spanish player can match that tally of goal contributions.

And Flick is delighted that Barca kept hold of Fermin last summer.

“He’s a fantastic player. The decision was his, and I’m happy he stayed,” Flick said of Fermin.

“He’s a player who lives and breathes Barcelona and has that Barcelona DNA. I really appreciated his performance.”

Barca face FC Copenhagen next week, with only a victory enough to guarantee their place in the top eight.

“It won’t be easy to beat Copenhagen,” Flick warned.

“We don’t know how Ferran [Torres] will be, and Pedri might not play. We have Lamine [Yamal] back, but [Frenkie] de Jong won’t be available.

“We have a good chance of finishing in the top eight. We didn’t start the Champions League well this season, but we have a chance to be among the top eight.”
