New Real Zaragoza coach Manolo Jimenez said he is looking forward to the challenge of helping the club avoid relegation.
Going into La Liga’s winter break, Zaragoza found themselves at the foot of the table five points adrift of safety, prompting Javier Aguirre’s dismissal and Jimenez’s appointment.
But the former Sevilla boss assured fans that he is looking forward to the battle of ensuring Zaragoza’s survival.
“It is a real challenge to remove an historic club from bottom of the table,” Jimenez told Marca.
“An historical club such as Real Zaragoza doesn’t finish bottom of the table.”
The 47-year-old went on to reveal he had asked his board for new players, but understands the limitations the club’s financial state will place on such a prospect.
“I have requested signings, but I am aware of the economic situation and how the team are in the table,” he said.
“I am also accompanied by two people, an assistant coach and a physical trainer. I can count on the professionals already at the club.”
