Juergen Klopp wants to win first and worry about qualification later in Borussia Dortmund’s final Champions League Group F match.
Bottom of the group, Dortmund can still mathematically qualify for the knockout stages if they beat Ligue 1 club Marseille by a four-goal margin at home on Wednesday and Olympiakos lose to already qualified English Premier League outfit Arsenal.
They will also scrape through should they prevail by a five goals or more and Greek club Olympiakos draw with the Gunners.
Either way, it means Bundesliga champions Dortmund must attack – an approach confirmed by manager Klopp.
“We have to win to remain in the Champions League. And we have to score many goals to have the chance. I think this is the only reason for the speculation we might win by scoring many more than Olympique (Marseille),” he said.
“Obviously, also in a match that you have to win with a huge goal difference, you have to score the first goal at some point. So we have to play very offensively. But saying this, we will not be overly aggressive.”
“It is a normal football match. I cannot talk about a 3-0 or 4-0 before having scored the lead. For a start, we will make sure we will win. And the rest – we’ll see.”
